Call to protect Chennai's Pallikaranai marshland

NDA States object to central education Bill replacing UGC and AICTE

Manipur enters Phase III of the electoral roll revision

Tamil Nadu signs Rs.15,037 crore battery storage plant at Tirunelveli

Tamil Nadu signed a memorandum of understanding with Vikram Solar to set up a Battery Energy Storage Systems manufacturing facility at the SIPCOT Industrial Park in Gangaikondan, Tirunelveli, with an investment of ₹15,037 crore.
The plant is expected to create about 2,670 jobs; the agreement was signed at the Secretariat before Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, with Industries Minister S. Keerthana present.

Tamil Nadu begins consultations for its first industrial policy

The State government began stakeholder consultations for its first industrial policy, to be rolled out in January 2027, starting with the electronics and semiconductor ecosystem.
Tamil Nadu leads the country with a 41% share of national electronics exports and has launched the Tamil Nadu Semiconductor Mission 2030 to deepen chip-related manufacturing.

CM to give jobs to kin of Karur stampede victims, opens footwear unit

Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will visit Karur to hand government appointment orders on compassionate grounds to the families of 32 victims of the stampede at a rally on September 27 last year.
He will also lay the foundation for an Ever-van Kothari footwear plant at Manavasi, a ₹1,700 crore project expected to create about 13,500 jobs; a petition challenging the jobs-for-kin move is before the Madras High Court's Madurai Bench.

Free women's bus scheme renamed 'Magalir Payanam'

The State government renamed the free bus travel scheme for women from 'Mahalir Vidiyal Payanam' to 'Magalir Payanam', dropping the word 'Vidiyal', while keeping the free-travel benefit unchanged.
Originally launched in May 2021, the scheme lets women travel free on ordinary-fare State transport buses; name boards and stickers are being changed across the fleet.

TNPDCL ties up with IIT Madras to modernise the power grid

Madras High Court stays Look Out Circular against E.V. Velu

The Madras High Court stayed the Look Out Circular issued against former Minister E.V. Velu in a Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption case relating to alleged irregularities in State Highways road contracts.
Justice G.K. Ilanthiraiyan directed Mr. Velu to appear before the investigating officer on July 15 and restrained the agency from coercive action for now.

Chennai seeks more Krishna water as reservoirs dip

A Water Resources Department and Chennai Metrowater team will visit Andhra Pradesh to seek more Krishna water, as the city's five main reservoirs hold only 5,630 mcft, about 48% of capacity and around 1,000 mcft below last year.
