The Tamil Nadu government has announced the Annapoorani Super Six Scheme, under which the cost of three domestic LPG cylinders a year will be reimbursed to eligible home-makers.
Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay made the announcement in the Legislative Assembly through a suo motu statement under Rule 110.
The benefit begins with the Pongal festival of January 2027, and three cylinders a year forms the first phase of the scheme.
The number of beneficiary families has been fixed at 1,30,16,104, roughly 1.30 crore households.
The cost to the exchequer is estimated at about Rs 4,000 crore every year.
Named in the same announcement as schemes already sanctioned for the advancement and safety of women were the Singappenngal Valimaippaduthum Thittam, the Thai Maaman Thanga Mothiram Thittam, the Vetri Magalir Goat Rearing Scheme and the Annan Seer scheme.
Eligibility and the Payment Route
Families whose annual income does not exceed Rs 2.5 lakh qualify, along with small and marginal farmer families, families of differently abled persons and other vulnerable groups.
The assistance is a reimbursement, not a free supply at the point of sale. The beneficiary books the cylinder in the usual way, pays for it and takes delivery.
The government then obtains the list of those who have taken delivery from the oil companies and credits the amount directly into the beneficiary's bank account, on the direct benefit transfer pattern.
The sequence is registration first, and the money follows only after a cylinder has actually been delivered.
Why the Scheme Was Announced Now
The government cited a shortage of LPG cylinders over the preceding four months, traced to the war situation in the Gulf region, which had also pushed prices up.
The shortage had forced many households to fall back on alternative fuels, while rising fuel prices were eating into family income.
The stated intent is to return to the public the money they spend on cylinders, and the announcement was made despite a financially stressful position for the State.
The wider trigger lies at the Strait of Hormuz, through which a large share of world oil trade passes; continued attacks on cargo shipping there have kept supply uncertain.
Comparable LPG Schemes in Other States
Andhra Pradesh, Deepam: three free cylinders a year, one every four months, to families below the poverty line.
Maharashtra, Mukhyamantri Annapurna Yojana: three free cylinders a year to women.
Uttarakhand, Antyodaya: three free cylinders a year.
Uttar Pradesh: two free cylinders a year to beneficiaries of the Union government's Ujjwala scheme.
With this announcement Tamil Nadu joins the group of States that meet part of a household's cooking fuel cost directly.

வரும் 2027 ஜனவரி பொங்கல் பண்டிகையை ஒட்டி இத்திட்டம் தொடங்குகிறது; ஆண்டுக்கு மூன்று உருளைகள் என்பது திட்டத்தின் முதல் கட்டம் ஆகும்.
பயனாளிக் குடும்பங்களின் எண்ணிக்கை 1,30,16,104 ஆக, அதாவது சுமார் 1.30 கோடி குடும்பங்கள் ஆக நிர்ணயிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
அரசுக்கு ஏற்படும் செலவு ஆண்டுதோறும் சுமார் ரூ.4,000 கோடி என மதிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ளது.
மகளிர் முன்னேற்றம் மற்றும் பாதுகாப்புக்காக ஏற்கெனவே நிதி ஒதுக்கி அறிவிக்கப்பட்ட திட்டங்களாக சிங்கப்பெண்கள் வலிமைப்படுத்தும் திட்டம், தாய்மாமன் தங்க மோதிரம் திட்டம், வெற்றி மகளிர் ஆடுகள் வளர்ப்புத் திட்டம், அண்ணன் சீர் திட்டம் ஆகியவை இதே அறிவிப்பில் சுட்டிக்காட்டப்பட்டன.
தகுதியும் தொகை சேரும் வழிமுறையும்
ஆண்டு வருமானம் ரூ.2.5 லட்சத்துக்கு மிகாத குடும்பங்கள், குறு மற்றும் சிறு விவசாயக் குடும்பங்கள், மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகளின் குடும்பங்கள் உள்ளிட்ட நலிவடைந்த பிரிவினர் இத்திட்டத்திற்குத் தகுதி பெறுகின்றனர்.
இது விற்பனை இடத்திலேயே இலவசமாக வழங்கும் முறை அல்ல; செலவழித்த தொகையைத் திரும்ப வழங்கும் முறை. பயனாளி வழக்கம்போல உருளையை முன்பதிவு செய்து, பணம் செலுத்திப் பெற வேண்டும்.
பின்னர் அரசு எண்ணெய் நிறுவனங்களிடமிருந்து உருளை பெற்றவர்களின் பட்டியலைப் பெற்று, நேரடிப் பயன் பரிமாற்ற முறையில் பயனாளியின் வங்கிக் கணக்கில் நேரடியாகத் தொகையை வரவு வைக்கும்.
முதலில் பதிவு, பின்னர் உருளை உண்மையில் வழங்கப்பட்ட பிறகே தொகை வரவு வைக்கப்படுதல் என்பதே வரிசை.
இப்போது அறிவிக்கப்பட்டதற்கான காரணம்
வளைகுடாப் பகுதியில் நிலவும் போர்ச்சூழல் காரணமாக கடந்த நான்கு மாதங்களாகச் சமையல் எரிவாயு உருளைகளுக்குத் தட்டுப்பாடு ஏற்பட்டு விலையும் உயர்ந்துள்ளதை அரசு காரணமாகச் சுட்டிக்காட்டியது.
தட்டுப்பாட்டால் பல குடும்பங்கள் மாற்று எரிபொருள்களை நாட வேண்டியிருந்தது; எரிபொருள் விலை உயர்வு குடும்ப வருமானத்தையும் பாதித்தது.
நிதி நெருக்கடியான சூழலிலும் இந்த அறிவிப்பு வெளியிடப்பட்டது; உருளைகளுக்கு மக்கள் செலவிடும் தொகையை அவர்களிடமே திரும்ப ஒப்படைப்பதே நோக்கம் எனத் தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டது.
உலக எண்ணெய் வர்த்தகத்தில் பெரும் பங்கு கடந்து செல்லும் ஹோர்முஸ் நீரிணையே இதன் பரந்த பின்னணி; அங்குச் சரக்குக் கப்பல்கள் மீதான தாக்குதல்கள் தொடர்வதால் விநியோகம் நிலையற்று உள்ளது.
