The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) released Notification No. 07/2026 (Advertisement No. 740) on 11 August 2026 for the Combined Civil Services Examination – II, covering Group II and Group IIA Services. Applications are accepted only online. Every figure below is taken directly from the official notification.

Age Limit (as on 01.07.2026)

For most Group II and Group IIA posts, the age band is 18 to 32 years for candidates not belonging to SC/SC(A)/ST/MBC/DC/BC(OBCM)/BCM - candidates from these reserved communities have no maximum age limit (up to 60 years) for most posts. Notable exceptions:

Group II's Probation Officer needs a minimum age of 22, not 18.
Group II's Sub Registrar, Grade-II needs a minimum age of 20.
Group IIA's Executive Officer, Grade III needs a minimum age of 25, maximum 37 for Others - no maximum for reserved communities.
On top of the standard maximum, age concession goes up to 42 for Persons with Benchmark Disability and 50 for Ex-servicemen (both for Others candidates); Destitute Widows have no maximum age limit for most posts.

Educational Qualification

Qualification is fixed post-wise. Most posts need a degree from a UGC-recognised university, with several giving preference for a related specialisation or diploma. A few posts need something more specific:

Assistant Section Officer (Post Code 1073): a B.L. (Law) degree.
Assistant Section Officer (Post Code 2201): a Master's degree, or a Bachelor's degree plus B.G.L, or a Bachelor's degree with First Class (relaxed to a plain Bachelor's degree for SC/SC(A)/ST/MBC/DC/BC/BC(M) candidates).
Assistant Section Officer cum Programmer (Post Code 2215): a Master's degree in Computer Application, or a Master's degree in Science (IT/Computer Science).
Assistant (Post Code 1076, Law Department): a B.L. degree.
Assistant (Post Code 1077, Finance): a Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Economics or Statistics.

Exam Pattern

The Combined Civil Services Examination – II runs in two stages: a common Preliminary Examination, followed by a separate Main Examination for Group II and for Group IIA. Preliminary marks are used only for shortlisting - they do not count toward the final merit list.

Both papers are descriptive, 3 hours each. Only Paper II marks count toward the final rank - and Paper II is evaluated only if the candidate clears Paper I's qualifying mark. Appearing for both papers is compulsory.

Paper I is qualifying (minimum 40 marks). Paper II is a Computer Based Test with 200 objective questions, minimum qualifying marks 90, and is evaluated only after Paper I's qualifying mark is cleared - only Paper II marks count toward the final rank.

General Studies questions for both the Preliminary and Main Examinations are set in Tamil and English. Differently abled candidates can claim exemption from Paper I (Tamil Eligibility Test) by declaring it in the online application.

Candidates belonging to SC, SC(A), ST, MBC/DC, BC(OBCM), BCM, Destitute Widows and Persons with Benchmark Disability can claim fee exemption as per the eligibility criteria in Annexure II of the notification - full exemption for Persons with Benchmark Disability and Destitute Widows, three free chances for BC/BC(M)/MBC-DC candidates, two for Ex-servicemen. Fees are paid online only (Net Banking, Credit/Debit card, UPI); demand drafts and postal orders are not accepted.

A minimum of 30% of vacancies in every category, including the open/general turn, is set apart for women candidates. The rule of reservation applies post by post, except for shortfall vacancies.

How to Apply

Register (once) on the One Time Registration (OTR) platform at www.tnpscexams.in, if not already registered - Aadhaar linking is mandatory.
Log in with the OTR user ID and password, click "Apply" against this notification, and fill the online application.
Upload photograph (taken on or after 11.08.2026) and signature in the prescribed format.
Pay the Preliminary Examination fee online (unless fee exemption is claimed) and submit.
Use the Application Correction Window (13.09.2026 to 15.09.2026) to fix any mistakes - no changes are allowed after that.

The last date for online application is 09.09.2026, 11:59 PM.

Selection Process

Preliminary Examination - a screening test only; marks are not counted for final ranking.
Main Examination - separate papers for Group II and Group IIA. Candidates admitted to the Main Examination are 10 times the number of vacancies (reservation-wise).
Onscreen Certificate Verification - admitted in the ratio 1:3 (General) and 1:2 (Reserved categories), based on Main Examination rank.
Physical Certificate Verification and Counselling - admitted in the ratio 1:3 (General) and 1:1.5 (Reserved categories); final selection is based on Paper II marks, subject to the rule of reservation.

Candidates selected for a Group II post under this notification will not be considered for Group IIA, and cannot take part in Group IIA counselling.

வயது வரம்பு (01.07.2026 நிலவரப்படி)

பெரும்பாலான குரூப் II மற்றும் குரூப் IIA பணிகளுக்கு, SC/SC(A)/ST/MBC/DC/BC(OBCM)/BCM பிரிவைச் சாராதவர்களுக்கு வயது வரம்பு 18 முதல் 32 வயது வரை; இந்த இட ஒதுக்கீடு பிரிவினருக்கு பெரும்பாலான பணிகளுக்கு அதிகபட்ச வயது வரம்பு இல்லை (60 வயது வரை). குறிப்பிடத்தக்க விதிவிலக்குகள்:

குரூப் II-ன் Probation Officer பணிக்கு குறைந்தபட்ச வயது 22 (18 அல்ல).
குரூப் II-ன் சார்பதிவாளர், தரம்-II பணிக்கு குறைந்தபட்ச வயது 20.
குரூப் IIA-ன் நிர்வாக அலுவலர், தரம் III பணிக்கு குறைந்தபட்ச வயது 25, மற்றவர்களுக்கு அதிகபட்சம் 37 - இட ஒதுக்கீடு பிரிவினருக்கு அதிகபட்ச வரம்பு இல்லை.
வழக்கமான அதிகபட்ச வயதுக்கு மேல், மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகளுக்கு 42 வரையும், முன்னாள் ராணுவ வீரர்களுக்கு 50 வரையும் வயது தளர்வு (இரண்டும் Others பிரிவினருக்கு); உதவியற்ற விதவைகளுக்கு பெரும்பாலான பணிகளில் அதிகபட்ச வயது வரம்பு இல்லை.

துணை வணிக வரி அலுவலர் பணிக்கு சட்டப் பட்டதாரிகளுக்கான கூடுதல் வயது தளர்வு உள்பட, பணிவாரியான முழு வயது அட்டவணை அதிகாரப்பூர்வ அறிவிப்பில் உள்ளது.

கல்வித் தகுதி

ஒவ்வொரு பணிக்கும் தனித்தனியாக கல்வித் தகுதி நிர்ணயிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. பெரும்பாலான பணிகளுக்கு UGC அங்கீகாரம் பெற்ற பல்கலைக்கழகத்தின் பட்டப்படிப்பு தேவை; தொடர்புடைய சிறப்புப் படிப்பு அல்லது டிப்ளமோ உள்ளவர்களுக்கு பல பணிகளில் முன்னுரிமை உண்டு. சில பணிகளுக்கு குறிப்பிட்ட தகுதி தேவை:

உதவிப் பிரிவு அலுவலர் (பணிக் குறியீடு 1073): B.L. (சட்டம்) பட்டம்.
உதவிப் பிரிவு அலுவலர் (பணிக் குறியீடு 2201): முதுகலைப் பட்டம், அல்லது இளங்கலைப் பட்டம் + B.G.L, அல்லது முதல் வகுப்பில் இளங்கலைப் பட்டம் (SC/SC(A)/ST/MBC/DC/BC/BC(M) வேட்பாளர்களுக்கு சாதாரண இளங்கலைப் பட்டம் போதும்).
உதவிப் பிரிவு அலுவலர் கம் புரோகிராமர் (பணிக் குறியீடு 2215): கணினி பயன்பாட்டில் முதுகலைப் பட்டம், அல்லது அறிவியலில் முதுகலைப் பட்டம் (IT/கணினி அறிவியல்).

உதவியாளர் (பணிக் குறியீடு 1077, நிதித்துறை): வணிகவியல், பொருளியல் அல்லது புள்ளியியலில் இளங்கலைப் பட்டம்.

தேர்வு முறை

ஒருங்கிணைந்த குடிமைப் பணிகள் தேர்வு – II இரண்டு நிலைகளில் நடைபெறும்: பொதுவான தொடக்கத் தேர்வு, அதைத் தொடர்ந்து குரூப் II மற்றும் குரூப் IIA-க்கு தனித்தனி முதன்மைத் தேர்வு. தொடக்கத் தேர்வு மதிப்பெண்கள் தேர்வுநிலைக்கு மட்டுமே பயன்படும் - இறுதி தரவரிசைக்கு கணக்கிடப்படாது.

தொடக்கத் தேர்வு (இரு பணிகளுக்கும் பொதுவான ஒரே தாள்):

முதன்மைத் தேர்வு – குரூப் II பணிகள்:

இரண்டு தாள்களும் விவரணத் தன்மையுடையவை, தலா 3 மணி நேரம். தாள் II மதிப்பெண்கள் மட்டுமே இறுதி தரவரிசைக்குக் கணக்கிடப்படும் - தாள் I-ன் தகுதி மதிப்பெண்ணை எட்டினால் மட்டுமே தாள் II திருத்தப்படும். இரண்டு தாள்களிலும் தேர்வு எழுதுவது கட்டாயம்.

முதன்மைத் தேர்வு – குரூப் IIA பணிகள்:

தாள் I தகுதிக்கு மட்டும் (குறைந்தபட்சம் 40 மதிப்பெண்). தாள் II ஒரு கணினி வழி தேர்வு (CBT), 200 புறவய வினாக்கள், குறைந்தபட்ச தகுதி மதிப்பெண் 90; தாள் I-ன் தகுதி மதிப்பெண்ணை எட்டியபின்னரே தாள் II திருத்தப்படும் - தாள் II மதிப்பெண்கள் மட்டுமே இறுதி தரவரிசைக்குக் கணக்கிடப்படும்.

தொடக்கத் தேர்வு மற்றும் முதன்மைத் தேர்வு இரண்டிலுமான பொது அறிவு வினாக்கள் தமிழிலும் ஆங்கிலத்திலும் அமைக்கப்படும். மாற்றுத்திறனாளி வேட்பாளர்கள் ஆன்லைன் விண்ணப்பத்தில் அறிவிப்பதன் மூலம் தாள் I (தமிழ் தகுதித் தேர்வு) எழுதுவதிலிருந்து விலக்கு பெறலாம்.

SC, SC(A), ST, MBC/DC, BC(OBCM), BCM, உதவியற்ற விதவைகள் மற்றும் மாற்றுத்திறனாளி வேட்பாளர்கள், அறிவிப்பின் இணைப்பு II-ல் உள்ள தகுதி நிபந்தனைகளின்படி கட்டணத் தள்ளுபடி கோரலாம் - மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகளுக்கும் உதவியற்ற விதவைகளுக்கும் முழு தள்ளுபடி; BC/BC(M)/MBC-DC வேட்பாளர்களுக்கு மூன்று இலவச வாய்ப்புகள்; முன்னாள் ராணுவ வீரர்களுக்கு இரண்டு. கட்டணம் ஆன்லைன் மூலம் மட்டுமே (நெட் பேங்கிங், கிரெடிட்/டெபிட் கார்டு, UPI) செலுத்த வேண்டும்; டிமாண்ட் டிராஃப்ட், போஸ்டல் ஆர்டர் ஏற்கப்படாது.

திறந்த வெளி/பொது இடம் உள்பட ஒவ்வொரு பிரிவிலும் குறைந்தபட்சம் 30% காலியிடங்கள் பெண் வேட்பாளர்களுக்கு ஒதுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. பற்றாக்குறைக் காலியிடங்களைத் தவிர, இட ஒதுக்கீட்டு விதி ஒவ்வொரு பணிக்கும் தனித்தனியாகப் பொருந்தும்.

எப்படி விண்ணப்பிப்பது

ஏற்கெனவே பதிவு செய்யவில்லை எனில், www.tnpscexams.in-ல் ஒருமுறை பதிவு (OTR) செய்யவும் - ஆதார் இணைப்பு கட்டாயம்.
OTR யூசர் ஐடி மற்றும் கடவுச்சொல்லுடன் உள்நுழைந்து, இந்த அறிவிப்புக்கு எதிரே "Apply" என்பதைக் கிளிக் செய்து ஆன்லைன் விண்ணப்பத்தை நிரப்பவும்.
11.08.2026 அன்று அல்லது அதற்குப் பின் எடுக்கப்பட்ட புகைப்படத்தையும், கையொப்பத்தையும் குறிப்பிட்ட வடிவில் பதிவேற்றவும்.
கட்டணத் தள்ளுபடி கோரவில்லை எனில், தொடக்கத் தேர்வுக் கட்டணத்தை ஆன்லைனில் செலுத்தி விண்ணப்பத்தைச் சமர்ப்பிக்கவும்.
ஏதேனும் தவறுகளை சரிசெய்ய விண்ணப்பத் திருத்த காலத்தைப் (13.09.2026 முதல் 15.09.2026 வரை) பயன்படுத்தவும் - அதற்குப் பின் எந்த மாற்றமும் அனுமதிக்கப்படாது.

தேர்வு செயல்முறை

தொடக்கத் தேர்வு - இது வடிகட்டும் தேர்வு மட்டுமே; மதிப்பெண்கள் இறுதித் தரவரிசைக்குக் கணக்கிடப்படாது.
முதன்மைத் தேர்வு - குரூப் II மற்றும் குரூப் IIA-க்கு தனித்தனி தாள்கள். காலியிடங்களின் எண்ணிக்கையை விட 10 மடங்கு வேட்பாளர்கள் (இட ஒதுக்கீட்டு அடிப்படையில்) முதன்மைத் தேர்வுக்கு அனுமதிக்கப்படுவர்.
திரையில் சான்றிதழ் சரிபார்ப்பு - முதன்மைத் தேர்வு தரவரிசையின் அடிப்படையில், பொதுப் பிரிவினருக்கு 1:3 மற்றும் இட ஒதுக்கீட்டுப் பிரிவினருக்கு 1:2 என்ற விகிதத்தில் அனுமதிக்கப்படுவர்.
நேரடி சான்றிதழ் சரிபார்ப்பு மற்றும் கலந்தாய்வு - பொதுப் பிரிவினருக்கு 1:3 மற்றும் இட ஒதுக்கீட்டுப் பிரிவினருக்கு 1:1.5 என்ற விகிதத்தில் அனுமதிக்கப்படுவர்; இட ஒதுக்கீட்டு விதிக்கு உட்பட்டு, தாள் II மதிப்பெண்களின் அடிப்படையில் இறுதித் தேர்வு நடைபெறும்.

இந்த அறிவிப்பின்படி குரூப் II பணிக்குத் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்படும் வேட்பாளர்கள் குரூப் IIA-க்குக் கருதப்பட மாட்டார்கள்; குரூப் IIA கலந்தாய்வில் பங்கேற்க முடியாது.
