One Time Registration (OTR) is TNPSC's shared candidate-profile system, used across every exam it conducts - Group 1, Group 2/2A, Group 4 and every other TNPSC recruitment. You register your basic details once, and reuse that same profile for every future notification, instead of re-entering your name, date of birth, community, educational history and photograph from scratch each time you apply.
Because your OTR profile is reused for every future TNPSC application, an error here doesn't just affect one notification - it follows you into every subsequent exam until you correct it. A wrong date of birth in your OTR, for instance, could cause an age-eligibility mismatch years later for a completely different post, or a wrong community entry could invalidate a reservation claim you are otherwise entitled to. Treat your very first OTR submission with the same care you would give a permanent government record, and review it carefully whenever you start a new application rather than assuming it is still perfectly accurate.

One Time Registration itself carries a one-time fee of Rs.150, paid when you first create your OTR profile - this is separate from, and in addition to, the examination fee you pay for each individual notification you apply under. A successfully completed OTR is valid for five years from the date of registration; once it lapses, you would need to register afresh. Aadhaar linking with your OTR is mandatory - your Aadhaar details are submitted to the Central Identities Data Repository (CIDR) for verification, and you cannot create a new OTR, renew an existing one, or apply for any TNPSC recruitment without it.
You are permitted to edit your OTR details whenever required, by uploading supporting documents for the change through the "OTR Edit" option - but any change must be completed before you submit an online application for a specific notification, since your application auto-fills from whatever your OTR currently holds at the moment you apply. Editing your OTR after submitting an application for a particular notification will not retroactively change that already-submitted application; the edit only reflects in applications you submit afterward. This is precisely why checking your OTR details carefully before starting each new application - not just once, at first registration - is worth the extra few minutes every single time.
Before beginning OTR, keep the following ready rather than searching for them mid-registration: a scanned passport-size photograph and signature meeting the prescribed size, format and file-size limits; your SSLC register number, certificate number, and month and year of passing exactly as printed on your certificate; your community certificate details if you are claiming reservation; your Aadhaar number for mandatory linking; and a personal email ID and mobile number that you will keep active for years, since all official communication from TNPSC - hall tickets, results, interview call letters - reaches you only through these two channels, never by post.
One Time Registration is not, by itself, an application for any specific post or recruitment - it is only a stored collection of your basic information, referenced automatically whenever you apply. Completing your OTR does not mean you have applied for anything; you must still separately fill and submit the exam-specific online application, choose your posts, and pay the applicable fee for every notification you actually want to be considered under.
If your OTR validity lapses before you've finished your TNPSC attempts, you must complete a fresh One Time Registration and pay the Rs.150 fee again - your Aadhaar linking and any documents already verified in your previous OTR do not automatically transfer, so treat the five-year window as a real deadline to track, not a background detail you can forget about. Mark the expiry date somewhere you will actually see it well in advance, since discovering a lapsed OTR right when a notification opens can cost you precious days out of an already tight application window.
