The Chief Minister's Cancer Care Mission is a Rs.673.44 crore programme to prevent cancer and treat it closer to patients' homes. Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay announced it in the Legislative Assembly under Rule 110 on 19 August 2026. Its biggest items are an integrated cancer block of ground plus 14 floors at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, Chennai (Rs.471.80 crore) and five Regional Cancer Care Centres, the first at the Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai. It is announced; works are at the preparation stage (in Madurai, the Corporation approved a land transfer near the Government Rajaji Hospital in August 2026, and the Health Minister named the centre's site in September 2026).

The Revised Budget of 5 August 2026 had proposed a Hub-and-Spoke system for cancer care, with five zonal cancer care hospitals as the first point of contact for patients, and Rs.10 crore for a detailed project report. The 19 August announcement names the five places: Thanjavur, Coimbatore, Madurai, Tirunelveli and Viluppuram, all at Government Medical College Hospitals. The idea is to bring advanced cancer treatment closer to patients outside Chennai. In Madurai, the Corporation Council approved the transfer of 86 cents of land near the Government Rajaji Hospital for an integrated regional cancer centre and critical care centre (The New Indian Express, 25 August 2026). On 11 September 2026 Health Minister K.G. Arunraj said Madurai's centre would come up on the premises of the old Ramanathapuram Collectorate (The Hindu).
Cervical cancer is caused mainly by long-lasting infection with high-risk types of the human papillomavirus (HPV). An HPV DNA test finds these virus types before cancer develops, so women at risk can be treated early. Under the Mission the test will be done for 1.22 lakh women in Dharmapuri, Viluppuram, Tiruvannamalai, Perambalur and Ariyalur districts.

கர்ப்பவாய்ப் புற்றுநோய் பெரும்பாலும் அதிக ஆபத்துள்ள மனித பாப்பிலோமா வைரஸ் (HPV) வகைகளின் நீண்டகாலத் தொற்றால் ஏற்படுகிறது. புற்றுநோய் உருவாகும் முன்பே இந்த வைரஸ் வகைகளை HPV DNA பரிசோதனை கண்டறிவதால், ஆபத்தில் உள்ள பெண்களுக்கு முன்கூட்டியே சிகிச்சை அளிக்க முடியும். இந்த இயக்கத்தின் கீழ் தருமபுரி, விழுப்புரம், திருவண்ணாமலை, பெரம்பலூர், அரியலூர் மாவட்டங்களில் 1.22 லட்சம் பெண்களுக்கு இப்பரிசோதனை செய்யப்படும்.
