How to use these papers

Previous year papers show you the real standard of the exam - how TNPSC asks, how long the questions are, and which units carry more weight. Use them like this:

  1. Attempt first, check later. Solve the full paper with a timer before opening any answer. The Show Answer buttons stay hidden until you tap them.
  2. Mark your weak units. Note which syllabus units your wrong answers come from, revise those units, then re-attempt the same paper after a week.
  3. Skip honestly. In the real exam, "(E) Answer not known" is TNPSC's own option and there is no negative marking - practise deciding when to skip.

Common Questions

Are these the official TNPSC Group 1 question papers?

Yes. Every paper on this page is reproduced in full from the official TNPSC question paper, in English and Tamil, with nothing changed. The answers follow TNPSC's own official answer key for that exam.

Is the answer key official?

Yes. Every answer follows the official answer key TNPSC published on tnpsc.gov.in for that exam. Nothing is guessed - where TNPSC did not publish a final answer for a question, the paper page says so on that question.

How many questions does the TNPSC Group 1 Prelims have?

The Group 1 Preliminary exam is a single 3-hour General Studies paper of 200 questions (175 General Studies and 25 Aptitude and Mental Ability) for 300 marks. There is no negative marking in the Prelims.

Why do the options include (E) Answer not known?

That option is TNPSC's own. There is no negative marking, and TNPSC adds "(E) Answer not known" to every question so candidates can honestly skip instead of blind-guessing. Choosing E scores zero, the same as a wrong answer.

How should I use previous year question papers for Group 1?

First attempt a paper under exam timing without looking at the answers, then use the Show Answer buttons to check. Note which units your mistakes come from and revise those units before re-attempting. Most toppers work through previous year papers in the final weeks before the exam.
