Syllabus: Prelims Unit V - Indian Economy and Development Administration in Tamil Nadu

Scheme Overview:

Full name: "Ungalai Thedi, Ungal Ooril" (Bringing Services to Your Doorstep)
Launched by: Tamil Nadu government under Chief Minister M.K. Stalin
Aim: Improve public service delivery and expedite scheme implementation
Core concept: Bridge the gap between government and public

Key Features:

Collectors and senior district-level officials spend 24 hours in one taluk monthly
Scheduled for the fourth Wednesday of every month
Time frame: 9 a.m. to 9 a.m. the next day

Implementation Strategy:

Morning Inspections (Forenoon):

Officials divided into teams
Inspect: Primary health centres, ration shops, cooperative societies, schools, government offices

Afternoon Activities:

2:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.: Review meeting to discuss feedback from morning inspections
4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.: Public interaction session for representations and grievances

Evening and Night Activities (Post 6 p.m.):

Inspect: Social Welfare Department facilities, bus stands, public toilets

Next Morning Activities:

Review basic civic amenities in villages
Inspect the implementation of Chief Minister's Breakfast Scheme
Return to headquarters

Pre-visit Preparations:

One week before the scheduled visit: A team of officials from different departments is sent to all firkas in the taluk
Purpose: Collect public representations

Coverage and Publicity:

Collectors to prepare an annual calendar for uniform coverage across districts
Emphasis on adequate publicity to maximize public participation

Objectives:

Enhance efficiency and transparency in service delivery
Review functioning of various projects
Inspect infrastructure
Directly engage with the public to understand needs and grievances
