The Vetri Tamil Nadu Investors Conclave 2026, the State government's first investment conclave, was held in Chennai on August 13, 2026 in the presence of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, with Industries Minister S. Keerthana and Chief Secretary M. Saikumar participating.
97 Memoranda of Understanding worth Rs 67,452 crore were signed through the Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce Department, promising 1,06,998 jobs. The projects are spread across 23 districts, with 55 new ventures and 50 expansions, and more than half located outside the State's traditional industrial belt.
Guidance Tamil Nadu is the State's nodal agency for investment promotion. The district spread was led by Kancheepuram (20 projects), Chennai (14), Tiruvallur (13) and Thoothukudi (10); participating countries included South Korea (6 projects), Germany (4) and Singapore (3).
Marquee Investments Announced
Phoenix Kothari Footwear will set up a Rs 1,000 crore footwear park in Ramanathapuram, the district's first major industrial investment. The Hinduja Group committed Rs 2,500 crore, including a 200-MW renewable energy project.
Other large commitments: Lucas TVS Rs 2,500 crore, Saint-Gobain Rs 2,000 crore (a greenfield plant in Krishnagiri plus a Kancheepuram expansion), Japan's YKK Rs 1,651 crore in Tiruvallur, Titan Rs 1,000 crore in Hosur, Ultraviolette's Rs 779 crore electric scooter plant, and a server assembly unit in Chennai by Super Micro Computer.
In the space sector, startups Agnikul Cosmos (Rs 400 crore) and Skyroot Aerospace (Rs 250 crore) are headed to Thoothukudi, near the Kulasekarapattinam spaceport. The State also signed an MoU with Russia's Sberbank on skilling and technology transfer, and seven institutional MoUs with entities from Kazakhstan, New Zealand and Russia covering cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and semiconductor skill training.
Launches Made at the Same Event
Foundation stones were laid for 8 projects worth Rs 4,476 crore (5,074 jobs), and 5 completed projects representing Rs 2,676 crore of investment (1,550 jobs) were inaugurated, alongside completed infrastructure worth Rs 777.74 crore, including 11 new SIPCOT buildings (Rs 122.08 crore) and 2 Tamil Nadu Industrial Housing buildings (Rs 55.66 crore).
The Rs 350 crore commercial tissue-paper plant of Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited (TNPL) at Mondipatti, Tiruchirappalli district, was launched as part of the conclave. It is the first commercial tissue-paper venture in South India, marketing four grades of tissue under the brand name "Lumia".
The Chief Minister also opened the Rs 250 crore "Aerohub" aerospace industrial campus of the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) at Vallam Vadagal, Kanchipuram district.
The Bigger Picture
With this conclave, cumulative investment commitments attracted in the State government's first 100 days crossed Rs 1 lakh crore (Rs 1,02,514 crore), with 1,21,788 promised jobs.
The government's stated goal is to grow Tamil Nadu into a $1.5-trillion economy by 2036. Attendees at the conclave included Ashok Hinduja of the Hinduja Group and Dr. Suchitra Ella, co-founder of Bharat Biotech.
Update, August 26: 104 Memoranda, Rs. 1,02,500 Crore, and Seven Sites for Bhavya Centres
Memoranda of understanding were signed with 104 companies at the conclave, attracting Rs. 1,02,500 crore of investment and expected to give work to more than one lakh people through the new industrial units.
A South Korean company has come forward to start industry in Tamil Nadu with Rs. 300 crore, despite an approach from Andhra Pradesh.
Seven locations in Tamil Nadu have been selected for the Union government's Bhavya industrial centres.
Alongside, new SIPCOT parks were announced at Mudivaithanendhal in Thoothukudi, on 2,570 acres at Rs. 1,390 crore for clean and renewable energy industries, and an electric vehicle manufacturing park at Sillanatham, at Rs. 774 crore over 1,294 acres, expected to draw Rs. 5,000 crore and Rs. 7,000 crore respectively.
Update, September 16: The London Agreements, and the Global Capability Centre
Tamil Nadu signed several memoranda of understanding in London during the Chief Minister's first official overseas visit, and the State put the investment proposals from the visit at more than Rs. 15,300 crore.
Several of them are for Global Capability Centres. A Global Capability Centre is an offshore unit a multinational sets up to do its own design, engineering, research or finance work, unlike an outsourcing vendor that does that work under contract for others.
One agreement is with a professional services firm to help establish such a centre in the State, on a newly announced GCC corridor on the Mount Poonamallee Road in Chennai; another covers the expansion of such centres in Tiruchi and Chennai in embedded systems, electrification and industrial digitalisation.
A separate agreement covers electrical and electronic equipment manufacturing in Tiruvallur district, and the group behind an earlier MoU signed at the August investors' conference discussed the steps taken since, along with renewable energy and commercial vehicle exports.
A memorandum of understanding records an intention to invest. It is not a contract and does not by itself create a factory, so a figure announced at a signing is a pipeline and not an outcome, and the number to follow later is the investment that reaches the ground.

திருச்சிராப்பள்ளி மாவட்டம் மொண்டிப்பட்டியில் தமிழ்நாடு நியூஸ்பிரிண்ட் அண்ட் பேப்பர்ஸ் லிமிடெட் (TNPL) நிறுவனத்தின் ரூ.350 கோடி வணிக டிஷ்யூ காகித ஆலை மாநாட்டின் ஒரு பகுதியாகத் தொடங்கப்பட்டது; இது தென்னிந்தியாவின் முதல் வணிக டிஷ்யூ காகித முயற்சியாகும்; "Lumia" என்ற வர்த்தகப் பெயரில் நான்கு தர வகைகளில் சந்தைப்படுத்தப்படும்.

மாநாட்டில் 104 நிறுவனங்களுடன் புரிந்துணர்வு ஒப்பந்தங்கள் கையெழுத்தாகி ரூ.1,02,500 கோடி முதலீடு ஈர்க்கப்பட்டது; புதிய தொழில் நிறுவனங்கள் வழியாக ஒரு லட்சத்திற்கும் மேற்பட்டோருக்கு வேலைவாய்ப்பு எதிர்பார்க்கப்படுகிறது.
ஆந்திரப் பிரதேசம் அணுகியபோதிலும், தென் கொரிய நிறுவனம் ஒன்று ரூ.300 கோடியில் தமிழ்நாட்டில் தொழில் தொடங்க முன்வந்துள்ளது.
மத்திய அரசின் பாவ்யா தொழில் மையங்களுக்குதமிழ்நாட்டில் ஏழு இடங்கள் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.

புதுப்பிப்பு, செப்டம்பர் 16: லண்டன் ஒப்பந்தங்களும், உலகளாவியத் திறன் மையமும்

அவற்றுள் பல உலகளாவியத் திறன் மையங்களுக்கானவை. பிறருக்காக ஒப்பந்த அடிப்படையில் பணி செய்யும் வெளியாள் நிறுவனம் போலன்றி, ஒரு பன்னாட்டு நிறுவனம் தன் சொந்த வடிவமைப்பு, பொறியியல், ஆராய்ச்சி, நிதிப் பணிகளைச் செய்ய அமைக்கும் கடல்கடந்த அலகே உலகளாவியத் திறன் மையம்.
