  • These changes can jump generations, differ by sex, and even "rewrite" the other parental copy of a gene, a phenomenon called paramutation, observed naturally in a mammal for the first time.
  • The findings suggest genome-wide association studies may be missing heritable variation that lies outside the DNA sequence itself.

CSIR-NEERI's Gravity-Based NEERI-ZAR Units Deployed for Flood Relief in Assam

  • CSIR-NEERI's gravity-based NEERI-ZAR water purification units, developed after the 2006 Barmer, Rajasthan floods and earlier deployed in Sundarbans (2009), Uttarakhand (2013), Chennai (2015), Kerala (2018) and Bihar (2019), have been distributed to flood-hit districts of Assam, including Charaideo, Jorhat and Sivasagar.

Chennai Reservoirs at 44.4% Capacity as Krishna River Inflow via Kandaleru-Poondi Canal Rises to 442 Cusecs

  • Krishna river water inflow into Chennai via the Kandaleru-Poondi canal has risen to 442 cusecs, helping top up the city's reservoirs, Poondi, Cholavaram, Puzhal, Chembarambakkam and Kannankottai. Their combined level now stands at 5,222 mcft out of a total capacity of 11,757 mcft (44.4%), after monsoon rainfall deficits of 6% in Chennai, 67% in Chengalpattu and 23% in Tiruvallur.
