In its opening survey of the Government's first three months, it lists 'increasing the free electricity provided to consumers with bi-monthly consumption of up to 500 units, to 200 units and reducing their household expenses' among the significant accomplishments since assuming office. In the Energy section, it states that in pursuance of the Chief Minister's announcement, an amount of Rs.1,545 crore is allocated in the Revised Budget Estimates to increase the free electricity entitlement from 100 units to 200 units for domestic consumers with bi-monthly consumption of up to 500 units.
Unlike many new schemes, the eligibility here is stated in the Budget speech itself: domestic consumers whose bi-monthly consumption is up to 500 units. For these households, the free entitlement rises from 100 units to 200 units per bi-monthly billing cycle. No separate application is needed; the free units are applied on the bi-monthly bill. The limit is strict: a home that crosses 500 units in a billing cycle, even by a few units, loses the 200-unit benefit for that cycle and gets only the earlier 100 free units.
