The Annapoorani Super Six Scheme will refund the cost of three domestic LPG cylinders a year to about 1.30 crore families in Tamil Nadu. Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay announced it in the Legislative Assembly under Rule 110 on 24 August 2026. It is announced, not yet launched: it is to begin at Pongal in January 2027, and as of 21 October 2026 the Government was still collecting data and preparing the order. The estimated cost is about Rs.4,000 crore a year.

The Chief Minister said that for the past four months, because of the war in the Gulf region, there had been a shortage of cooking gas cylinders. People had to use other fuels and pay more for cylinders, which ate into family income. Even though the State was under financial strain, the Government decided to return to the people the money they spend on gas cylinders. In the first phase, the cost of three cylinders a year will be given to women heads of households under the Annapoorani Super Six Scheme. The same Rule 110 statement announced the Vettri Payanam free bus scheme; the two schemes together cost about Rs.10,000 crore a year.
This is a reimbursement scheme, not a free supply at the shop. The family books the cylinder in the usual way, pays for it and takes delivery. The Government then gets the delivery details from the oil companies and credits the amount to the beneficiary's linked bank account. In September 2026 officials said the Government Order was being prepared and that the rules of the Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme were being studied as a model (DT Next, 19 September 2026). The TVK had promised six free cylinders a year to every family. The scheme as announced gives the cost of three cylinders, only to families within the income limit and the listed groups, and calls this the first phase. The Government cited the State's financial position for the change. For scale: the oil companies supply LPG to about 2.39 crore connections in Tamil Nadu (as reported by DT Next), and the scheme covers about 1.30 crore families.
