How the Group 2 Cutoff Is Decidedகட்-ஆஃப் எப்படி தீர்மானிக்கப்படுகிறது

There is no single Group 2 cutoff. The Prelims only shortlists: its marks are not counted in your final rank. Notification 07/2026 calls 10 times the number of vacancies to the Mains, reservation-wise, and Group II and Group IIA have separate Main Examinations, so each has its own set of cutoffs.

ServiceVacanciesCalled to the Mains (about)
Group II (descriptive Mains)41410
Group IIA (objective Mains)7807,800
Total8218,210

The vacancies are tentative: TNPSC can revise them until the Prelims result, and the Mains numbers move with them. With 19 times more posts, the Group IIA cutoff is usually lower than the Group II cutoff.

Inside each service, seats are shared out by Tamil Nadu's rule of reservation, so every community closes at its own mark:

CategoryShare of posts
General Turn (GT / OC), open to every community on merit31%
BC (other than BC Muslim)26.5%
BC (Muslim)3.5%
MBC / DNC20%
SC15%
SC (Arunthathiyar)3%
ST1%

On top of this, the notification sets apart at least 30% of the vacancies in every category for women, and 20% of posts go to PSTM candidates (studied 1st standard to Degree in Tamil medium, the reason this survey asks). Each of these slices can close at a different mark.

Three things that follow:
1. GT is not "for OC only". A BC, MBC or SC candidate who scores above the GT cutoff is counted in the open 31% on merit, without using their community quota.
2. The GT cutoff is always the highest. BC and MBC usually close near each other, with SC, SC(A) and ST below. The gaps change every year with the paper.
3. The women's or PSTM cutoff in a category can be lower than that category's general cutoff, because those slices are filled from those candidates first. It can also be higher: a quota guarantees seats, it does not cap them.

Score, Qualifying Mark and Official Cut-offமதிப்பெண், குறைந்தபட்சத் தகுதி, அதிகாரப்பூர்வ கட்-ஆஃப்

Your score: 200 questions carry 300 marks, so each is worth 1.5 marks, with no negative marking. Correct answers × 1.5 = your Prelims score. 140 correct = 210 marks.

Qualifying mark: at least 90 out of 300 (60 correct answers) for all communities. This only makes you eligible; the real cutoff is decided by rank, vacancies and reservation, so it sits well above 90.

Official cut-off: TNPSC publishes the marks of the last candidate admitted in each category together with the Mains shortlist. We add that official table here, for Group II and Group IIA, the day it is released.

Group 2 Cut Off 2026: Frequently Asked Questionsஅடிக்கடி கேட்கப்படும் கேள்விகள்

What will be the TNPSC Group 2 cut off 2026?
Nobody knows the exact number until TNPSC releases it with the Mains shortlist. It depends on how hard the 1 November 2026 paper is, the 821 vacancies (41 Group II and 780 Group IIA) and the rule of reservation. After the exam, our live survey on this page shows where your correct-answer count stands among other candidates, community by community.
What is the minimum qualifying mark in the Group 2 Prelims?
Notification 07/2026 sets the minimum qualifying mark at 90 out of 300 for all communities, which is 60 correct answers. That only makes you eligible. The real cutoff for the Mains is decided by rank, vacancies and reservation, so it sits well above 90.
How many candidates will be called for the Group 2 Mains?
The notification says candidates admitted to the Main Examination are 10 times the number of vacancies, reservation-wise. With 41 Group II and 780 Group IIA vacancies, that is about 410 candidates for the Group II Mains and about 7,800 for the Group IIA Mains, if the vacancies stay as notified. TNPSC can revise the vacancies until the Prelims result.
Are the Group II and Group IIA cutoffs the same?
No. Group II and Group IIA have separate Main Examinations and separate vacancies, so TNPSC shortlists for each separately. Group IIA has far more vacancies (780 against 41), so its cutoff is usually lower than the Group II cutoff.
How do I calculate my Group 2 Prelims score?
The paper has 200 questions for 300 marks, so each question is worth 1.5 marks. There is no negative marking. Count your correct answers across General Studies, Aptitude and your language paper and multiply by 1.5. For example, 140 correct answers = 210 marks.
Is this survey the official cutoff?
No. It is an anonymous survey of candidates who choose to vote, so it leans toward confident candidates and the real cutoff usually sits below what polls suggest. Use it to see where you stand, and wait for TNPSC's own cutoff, released with the Mains shortlist.
