Three facts, one multiplication:
1. 200 questions carry 300 marks - each question is worth 1.5 marks.
2. There is no negative marking. Wrong answers cost nothing.
3. So: your correct answers across all three parts × 1.5 = your Prelims score. 130 correct = 195 marks.
Two keys matter. ArivArk publishes its expert-solved question-wise key for General Studies and Aptitude on this page on the evening of the exam, 1 November 2026. TNPSC then publishes its official tentative answer key on tnpsc.gov.in some days after the exam, invites objections from candidates for a short window, and releases the final key after reviewing them.
The paper has 200 questions for 300 marks, so each question carries 1.5 marks. Count your correct answers across all three parts - General Studies, Aptitude and your language paper - and multiply by 1.5. There is no negative marking.
The notification fixes the minimum qualifying mark at 90 out of 300 for all communities - that is 60 correct answers. Crossing 90 only makes you eligible; the actual shortlist for the Mains is decided by rank, vacancies and the rule of reservation, so the real cutoff is much higher than 90.
No. There is no negative marking in any TNPSC exam. Only correct answers count.
In last year's Group 2 Prelims paper, questions 1 to 100 were the language part (General Tamil or General English, depending on what the candidate chose) and questions 101 to 200 were General Studies (75) and Aptitude (25), common to everyone. Our key follows the official question numbering.
Yes. When TNPSC publishes its tentative key on tnpsc.gov.in, it opens an objection window where candidates can submit representations with supporting evidence. The final key issued after this review is what evaluation uses.
